How to Make the Most Out of Basic Protein Powder

Longer days and great weather—what's not to love about the summer?

Are you in a rush to just get outside and enjoy the day? Or maybe you're in need of a break from the heat. Our original protein powder was made for exactly this kind of thing.

It’s light. It’s creamy. But, most of all, it makes for a perfect base.

Of course, the OG Soylent powder is great on its own, but the velvety smooth texture and light flavor make for the perfect base for a summer smoothie.

Summer is about going all out. So, let’s take your original meal replacement shake and take it up a notch.

We've put together a list of a few healthy ingredients we think would go great with your protein smoothie. And after you try the suggestions out, you might be inspired to add in a few favorites of your own.

1. Frozen bananas + Soylent Original + blender

The frozen banana is a classic standby when it comes to soothing smoothie add ons. Whether you're a-stick-the-whole-bunch-in-the-freezer kind of person or you prep them ahead of time, either way is alright with us.

Frozen bananas help to chill your beverage when you are desperate for relief from the heat, plus we all know that bananas are a rich source of potassium. In your Soylent Original, you’ll already find 1 8 fl oz serving of 630mg of potassium, 15% of the recommended daily value, but if you need a bit more, bananas are a solid go-to choice. They also add a great texture that makes the whole experience of drinking your smoothie very pleasant.

2. Frozen strawberries + Soylent Original + blender

There are not many things that can go wrong when strawberries are involved. Strawberries are a summer fruit, after all, so adding them to your protein smoothie seems like an obvious no-brainer. (Unless you're allergic. #consultyourdoctor).

Anyway, frozen strawberries, like frozen bananas, are another healthy add on that doubles as a great way to chill your protein smoothie. They're also a great source of Vitamin C.

Just one cup of halved strawberries can provide about 99% of your daily value of Vitamin C, which is great for supporting a healthy immune system so you don't lose any time away from enjoying those summer rays.

But don't restrict yourself to just the above two frozen fruits. Think about what other kinds of fruits you enjoy, and give them a try as well.

3. Almond butter drizzle + Soylent Original

Almond butter is the new peanut butter.

Not really, but it is packed full of micronutrients and we think it's pretty delicious. The high oleic sunflower oil in Soylent Original is already a high-quality source of monounsaturated fats, but if you need more fat in your diet (good fats, of course), almond butter is a great source for that very thing.

Almonds are also a great source of antioxidants and plant protein and help to lower cholesterol and promote healthy blood pressure. Quite frankly, just thinking about combining almond butter with some frozen bananas and Solyent Original on a hot summer day sounds pretty mouthwatering.

4. Hemp seeds + Soylent Original

Part of living a healthy lifestyle is taking care of your heart and your brain.

Hemp seeds, in addition to being a great-tasting source of protein, are also an optimally balanced source of omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids. Omega oils are found in foods such as seafood, flaxseed, and fish oil. Omega-3s, in particular, are widely recognized to benefit cardiovascular vitality.

While hemp seeds come from the hemp plant, Cannabis sativa, they will not get you high. They are softer than sunflower seeds and have a "nutty" pine nut/walnut flavor profile. And you can easily find them in your nearest health food store.

5. Protein Powder Pancakes

Yeah, you read that right. Using our OG Soylent powder, you can whip up a batch of fluffy, guilt-free pancakes. All you need is oats, a banana, an egg, and a pinch of baking soda. Blend it all together, throw in some cinnamon and blueberries (or chocolate chips if you're feeling daring), and pour it in a pan. You'll get a hearty meal that you can actually chew—a true blessing when you're on the meal replacement drink diet.

6. Greek yogurt + Soylent Original + blender

If you're on a high-protein diet, or just enjoy the creamy taste of dairy products, then Greek yogurt is an awesome low-sugar smoothie add on packed with protein. The probiotics in yogurt are also said to aid in the promotion of digestive health.

Since Greek yogurt goes through a straining process to remove most of its liquid, it is thicker and sourer than traditional yogurt. This is also what contributes to the high amounts of protein found in Greek yogurt.

Considering its thickness, you might decide that adding a little almond milk or water to your smoothie if that's something you enjoy. This is the perfect complement to our plant-based protein.

Give one or all of them a try.

Summertime is about getting out there and enjoying the variety that life has to offer. But that diversity can begin with adding a bit of creative flair to the already complete meal in your glass or shaker of Soylent Original.

Your favorite summer smoothie, but better.

Yeah, premade summer smoothies that are super delicious, but they’re often packed with stuff that’s ultimately going to slow you down. That’s not the energy you’re trying to bring into your summer.

With our original protein powder, you can recreate your favorite summer concoction in a more meaningful way.

We call this modular nutrition, with our meal replacement drink designed to fit a variety of diets and lifestyles. And, that's one of the things that's so great about our protein powder. You're able to add whatever your nutritional requirements are in order to enjoy a healthy diet.

We understand that there is no one-size-fits-all approach, so hopefully, we've inspired a few smoothie add ons that will help you make your day more interesting and enjoyable.
