FAQs for Diabetes

How do you check your blood sugar?
For people with diabetes, it’s often crucial to stay up-to-date on your blood sugar. A doctor will walk you through all the processes, but luckily, it’s become easier to track your levels in the comfort of your home. By pricking blood from your finger with over-the-counter strips, you can quickly check your blood sugar and record your results.

Remember, with our slow-burning carbohydrates, Soylent makes blood sugar maintenance easy.
How do you lower blood sugar?
One of the biggest questions of diabetes is how to lower glucose levels.

There are plenty of ways to regulate your blood sugar. A few options include: staying hydrated, sleeping consistently, and exercising regularly. Beyond this, try to incorporate more proteins into your diet and manage carbs. With complete soy proteins and slow-burning carbohydrates, Soylent is a great tool to help regulate your blood sugar.
Am I at risk for diabetes?
A healthy diet may prevent diabetes, but certain people are more predisposed. While the risk factors for Type 1 diabetes are less known, this form typically arises due to family history or young age. On the other hand, the risk of type 2 diabetes usually comes to those who are overweight, have prediabetes, and are over the age of 45.

Even if you fill none of these criteria, ensure you fill your body with nutritious choices, like Soylent. Your body will thank you in the long run.
How to manage diabetes?
If you have diabetes, talk to your doctor about your best management options. Across the US, 1 in 10 people have diabetes, meaning the condition is manageable, no matter the struggle. For your diet, track your portions and go easy on carbohydrates. Our pre-portioned protein shakes contain slow-burning carbohydrates, perfect for your diet. However, Soylent is just one part of a holistic approach to managing diabetes.

Keep talking to your doctor, exercising, and monitoring your blood sugar to ensure you stay as healthy as possible.

"I found out I had Diabetes 2 last October on top of that, I really have no appetite and not eating with diabetes is not an option. It took be awhile but, I finally found Soylent. It is the perfect meal substitute for me because it has a lot of protein along with other important vitamins and minerals. I drink one in the morning and it keeps me full and my blood sugar stays level. I try to eat a high protein lunch and then if I need more I'll drink a full or partial at night. I have found that I need something before I go to bed but I hated having to eat that late at night so Soylent is perfect for giving me the nutrients I need and not making feel bloated and full before bed. I also noticed that my stomach has not had as many problems since I started drinking Soylent regularly. It's pretty amazing."

"This powder, with only water added, is very good tasting. I've tried various drink mixes in the past including mixes for: meal replacement, energy, and protein. All were a chore to drink. This product is easy to drink. I have diabetes following a kidney transplant, actually I've had two, as well as, two liver transplants. A lot of monitoring of my blood is carried out both in the lab and at home. Since I have been using this product I have noticed my blood glucose numbers have been at a better level with fewer peaks and valleys. My CBC and metabolic panels have shown this same quality of better levels and greater consistency. I usually drink 12 oz. 3-4 times a day and eat a healthy dinner. I have to say I was skeptical of initial ordering Soylent, but now that I have used it as part of a complete meal plan I wish I had found the Soylent product earlier."

“This is my first time purchasing soylent, and it certainly has changed my food routine while at work. I struggle with non-diabetic blood sugar swings, and used to have to stop for multiple carefully portioned and chosen snacks before lunch, to keep my energy up. I do physical labor, though, so there isn't always time. With Soylent, I just run back to the truck and have a sip, and my energy stays balanced all morning! It's nice not to worry about finding and packing suitable foods every day."

“These shakes are so good!!! I am diabetic and none of them raise my sugars like regular coffee products do. I was able to cut out my normal coffee in the morning with lots of creamer for these delicious shakes and still get my caffeine in.”

The Science of Sucralose: Good Or Bad?

One of the most apparent benefits of sucralose is for those living with diabetes. Consuming large amounts of sugar can be dangerous for those with diabetes, as their bodies can’t produce enough insulin to counteract a rapid spike in blood sugar.Artificial sweeteners, on the other hand, can’t be digested by the body, so they might be the perfect option for someone on a low-sugar diet.
